We're not a big tour company. We're a bunch of people obsessed with the wild
Up-Close started because we got tired of crowded buses, loud guides shouting through megaphones and animals running away from selfie sticks. We wanted something different, something that actually feels real. So a few years back a couple of us, ex-rangers, biologists and just plain nature addicts sat down in a tiny office in Casper and said, let's build trips where the animals don't notice we're there... until they do, and they don't mind.
That's how Up-Close was born. Small. Focused. A little stubborn about doing things the right way.

What drives us every single day
We believe the best wildlife moments happen when you shut up and wait.
When you let the lion decide if he wants to walk closer.
When the gorilla family ignores you because you're boring and quiet.
When the pink dolphins bump the canoe because they're curious, not because someone threw fish.
That's why we keep groups tiny, never more than 8.
Why we only work with local guides who grew up in these forests and plains.
Why we say no to feeding, no to touching, no to shortcuts that hurt the place.
We don't chase five-star hotels. We pick simple eco-lodges run by the people who live there.
We don't promise you'll see everything. We promise you'll experience what's really happening out there.
A little bit about the numbers (but not the boring kind)
Over the last few years we've helped protect more than 120 square kilometers of gorilla habitat through our partner fees.
We've trained 47 new local guides in Rwanda and Tanzania.
We've had zero incidents of animals being stressed because of our groups (guides keep count, they're strict about it).
These aren't just stats. They're proof that getting close responsibly actually helps keep these places alive.
What we want for you
We want you to come back changed.
Not with a hundred blurry photos, but with that quiet feeling you get when a wild creature looks at you and decides you're okay to be there.
That's the moment we chase. Every trip, every booking, every early morning coffee before the trek.
Up-Close isn't perfect.
Sometimes it rains all day.
Sometimes the animals hide.
But when it works, when that silverback turns and locks eyes with you for three long seconds, you'll understand why we do this.
We're just a small team trying to keep the wild wild.
And maybe, if we're lucky, help a few more people fall in love with it too.
Ready to meet us out there?
We can't wait.
